Is there such a command? The ability to mirror a port is a very crucial part of troubleshooting especially when you need to see traffic that is ingressing and egressing from a specific port that a host is connected to. The best way to see that traffic is to setup a port mirror on that port. A port mirror can be described basically as a window into the traffic on a particular port. A couple of things to keep in mind when you setup a port mirror:.

Most switches have a means to enable port mirroring either in a web interface or commandline and usually both.

With the Nseries, the easiest way is to use the web interface to flag on port mirroring. This means that the port mirroring functionality is not turned on.

Below we have added a destination port which is the port that the monitoring workstation will be plugged into. This would be the port you would plug into with a workstation or laptop for instance running wireshark.

At this point you should have successfully setup a port mirror from a source port s over to a destination port for a monitoring workstation to be able to see traffic. Keep up to date with latest posts! This is my first experience with these new Dell Switches, we picked one up to add 10G to our network and to replace a smaller Cisco SG Switch that is maxed out ports wise.

Long Story short after lots and lots of pain of getting the switch configured we attempted to migrate connections over to it and to our shock and surprise we are unable to get any POE from the switch. I assume that there is some kind of setting to enable POE as it shows as "Off" but can't for the life of me figure out how to enable it. To be clear we know that only Ports 1 through 24 are POE on this switch and we tried everything including a Fluke Tester and can't get anything.

Anyone know how the heck you enable POE on these things? I mean talk about not ready for prime time. Was just thinking it might auto provision the POE once a device was cabled in. The user manual is here:. I searched probably as you did and could not find any indication that PoE needs to be turned on.

My impression was that it is always on and the status indicates the switch's current power delivery state. I understand that's not what you're seeing and I'm puzzled as well. The Device Discovery Protocol enables the device to discover Powered Devices attached to the device interfaces, and to learn their classification.

See attached When I told them that I was told that those options were not available for this product he didn't seem to believe me so more time on hold and was told I was right and to just call back when my support is valid.

On to try 2 - This time I called during my support window 2 hours later I ended the call and left them in a WebEx Session trying to figure out what the issue is. Everyone confirmed that POE is enabled by default and should just work. This was escalated and the tech that was the next level support did the same exact things after getting the full log file dump.

This is kind of sad - Why can't they just call it - This switch is defective and replace it?

Configuring VLANs and Assigning ports to VLANs

Ahhh the state of the world these days. I have no problem with troubleshooting but to see multiple people doing the same exact thing for hours just doesn't make any sense to me. Kind of sad isn't it? Here's to hoping that they will just replace it, sadly I have missed my return window otherwise I would just return it.

Hey everyone I wanted to give an update to this thread It became very apparent that even Dell doesn't know how the heck to navigate this new GUI. It also became very apparent to us that this line of switches is NOT ready for prime time. I would suggest holding off of the x series of switches for a bit until they work out a lot of the bugs in the GUI and or put back the full CLI functionality. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Now management won't approve this to be put in to production so its on to a Cisco Alternative.

Could someone give me information step by step how to do it please? While you can have multiple source ports, you can only have the one destination port. So if you add a bunch of source ports, you wont be able to capture all packets because the one source port will become saturated. Brand Representative for NetFort.

One thing to watch out for, once you connect you laptop to the mirror port you won't be able to connect to anything on the network. The laptop will just receive packets. When you configure port mirroring on most switches the output port goes into monitoring mode.

Your laptop when connected to this port can receive packets but it cannot connect to other systems on the network. You just need to connect it to a different port once you have captured enough data from the mirror port.

If you want a system monitorig of the switch as a device, you dont need mirroring. Even if you want to know speed levels or which port is up or down.

Mirroring is only needed if you want to have look on the payload to see the moving packets! To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.

It has a very basic config on it, one vlan, one IP address, no real config options to mention. I tried to generate rsa and dsa keys and that did work, but still no web access. I entered the ip ssh server, ip https server, etc But still nothing when I browse to its IP address. I must be missing something, but I don't know.

Any ideas? Yes, I get an unable to display page. I have tried both http and https and both get the same thing.

So I think that is good, but I must be missing something else? Wait, I might have found something. I believe the clock is not set on this device. It shows me that Certificate 1 is active, but it is only valid from May 2, to May 2, I wonder, if I get the correct time set and re-issue a new certificate will it then let me connect?
